South Australia, 26 August 2008 – Unisys Australia is ramping up its staff numbers in South Australia to deliver on the new regional information communication technology (RICT) support services contract with the Australian Department of Defence which was announced at the end of February.

This is Unisys largest deal in the Asia Pacific region and will provide IT support services to 460 Defence locations across Australia.  Unisys will fill 25 IT positions in South Australia through its long-term local partner Logitech. More specifically, the roles will comprise of 24 positions at the RAAF Edinburgh base in Adelaide and one position at Keswick Barracks in Adelaide.

“From the outset of the tender process, Unisys has emphasised its intention to employ a significant number of Defence staff currently involved in ICT regional service delivery and this remains a cornerstone of our staffing strategy.  Their experience and knowledge will be a key factor in achieving a smooth transition from Defence to Unisys delivery,” said John Maley, HR Director Australia/New Zealand, Unisys.

“While Canberra will be the hub of the Unisys Defence program, the roles in Adelaide will support Defence personnel and operations in South Australia.

“These 25 IT roles are among approximately 380 roles being recruited nationally by Unisys that will enable more effective services to be provided to the 100,000 users of the Defence Restricted and Secret networks across Australia.

“These positions present a unique opportunity to contribute to a project that will improve the effectiveness of one of the most important Commonwealth Government departments,” Mr Maley said.

Under the direction of the Defence’s CIO Group (CIOG), Unisys will provide a range of IT support services, including support for network security and infrastructure support, server and desktop support of over 100,000 desktop computers across all Defence business groups.

The aim of the project is to improve the quality of ICT service delivery at Defence bases and sites across Australia. This is central to the effective operation of the Department of Defence and critical in supporting Australian Defence Force (ADF) operations.

Unisys has a strong reputation for delivering high-end IT services to a number of Commonwealth departments and agencies and has been providing IT services to the Australian Department of Defence for more than 35 years.
